Dr. James Chang
DAOM, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.,
James CY Chang holds Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacififc College of Health and Science and a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree from Southern California University of Health Sciences.
He also holds a Bachelor degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from Barry University. Dr. Chang is currently an Instructor for Tuina technique and Part-time faculty at Southern California University of Health Sciences.
Dr. Chang focused his earlier studies and career on the cells of the human body. At Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, he worked as a research assistant in understanding the genetic mechanisms behind breast cancer. He also helped The Department of Toxic Substances Control to analyze the relationship of toxic chemicals in the human body. In his Masters studies, he further explored the current biomedical technologies that analyze diseases and the human body.
After realizing the limitations of Western medicine, Dr. Chang fell in love with the ancient healing art of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He greatly preferred the holistic / natural approach in treatment philosophopy. He likes that TCM does not cause harm to the body and does not have the side effects common with medications.
Dr. Chang also trained during his Master’s degree in Taiwan at the Chang Gung Medical Hospital to enhance his acupuncture specialty.Dr. Chang’s focus in TCM and Oriental Medicine is Acupuncture and Tui-Na(Chinese Therapeutic Massage). He believes that a lot of disease and discomfort are come from many layers in the body. By using Tui-na he releases th external system and uses Acupuncture to balance the internal system. He believes this will help each patient realize their maximum health potential by bringing this inner and outer balance. He helps each patient initiate their own healing power, so that the body can heal itself.
Dr. Chang also likes to practice martial arts and study classical Chinese literature to add to his knowledge and skills for Traditional Chinese Medicine. He also loves to eat all kinds of food. To keep his weight down, Dr. Chang does a lot of outdoor exercising such as hiking, cycling, and activities at the beach. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and dog Taco.
